Happiness is a Positive Cash Flow

We have just experienced the big is best business style of business management maybe its time now to see if small is beautiful.

With the British and Irish economies under a great deal of strain we are starting to see the cracks.

The building trade are shedding jobs, the IT industry is looking at their bottom line. The large retail chains profits are on a sharp downward curve. Large airline companies are operating in lose. Banks, building societies and large financial institutions are making mega jog cuts world wide. Drug companies are in a period of rationalising their workforce. Maybe you are about to be rationalised if not this month may be next month and do you have the definite feeling you will be lucky to make to Christmas in your current job.

What are you options. Job centre look for a job locally nationally internationally. Does that ring a bell. May be deep inside you you have an idea that may make a good little business.
Well this is your time to take the step towards employing yourself in a micro business.
Its a great think to do whilst you are still employed you will be one of the few with a smile on their face when the call comes.
If you have just had the call you are not to late. Explore the options available to you.
The government department website responsible for small business development in UK and Ireland will provide you with a lot of sound advice on tax, grants and other help.

There is another level of help and support that is not covered by these organisation and that its help and support directed at the individual. In the micro business the person is the business so they need more help advice and support than they are getting.

I have run many small businesses and started them with literally nothing.
Some have become very large business some have remained small businesses.
One failed.
These are a few tips or hints that may be usefully to you:

Research your idea. Get as much info as you can you can never have to much. Maybe from other companies doing a similar thing to what you have in mind. The internet is great for this. Try and talk to individuals involved even partially in what you are researching. Most people are open just so long as you don’t ask obvious direct questions
like suppliers and profitability. However don’t tread on others toes like opening an identical service business service right next door.
If you intend to operate a local enterprise for local people talk to the your local people at length.
Don’t ask them to see your vision ask them more practical questions like would you buy x at x from me.
Ask them what they think you will be surprised at what you pick up.

Take your family with you. Husbands wives partners mums dads aunts uncles and friends make great ambassadors.
They all have their own networks its amazing how this multiplies. They are great at spreading the word.
Make sure those closest to you know and understand what your aims are. One of the most destructive influences on any micro business is trouble at home especially if the business is run from home. If you are sharing both home and business with a partner make sure it is share. Often the business takes over which is OK if all the household don’t find that a problem .
Share goals, vision and objectives with those closest to you. But not with to many people.

If friends or family want to help let them but always be careful that it is what you think is needed not what they think you need. If this happens cut the help short before is damages the relationship. Reward them fairly if not money a hug is good.

If you have child care issues make sure you have that covered you don’t need that strain I know what that is like.
Think about the school holidays before you start. Not when it happens and you have started the business.

Don’t think to much about the future if you are going to do this its today that matters. Its what you do or don’t do today that makes tomorrow good or bad.

Seek out other micro business people in your local area they will be lonely to.

Don’t get to obsessive it will happen watch for it because you have years to go.

Keep off the coffee it happens honest. Above all smile…. and remember
